Serving Jesus 1.0 at 11:00

With all the software we use on our computers these days, we have become accustomed to the fact that we might not have the latest version of a particular program.  If you are running windows on your computer, the latest version is 10. But it all started in 1985 with the release of the very elementary version 1.0.

When it comes to knowing Jesus, we are not looking for the latest version.  You can’t improve on the One who is the “Exact representation of the Father” (Heb. 1:3).  Jesus is the “same yesterday, today and forever” (Heb. 13:8).  We are best served if we seek Jesus 1.0.  And we fulfill the mission of Christ when we offer Jesus 1.0!

I Peter 2:2 says that newborn babies [in Christ] need pure spiritual milk.  Heb. 5:12 says there is a time when Christians ought to eat solid food.  Up until now, we have been offering the same spiritual diet at both the 9:30 and 11:00 services on Sunday mornings. But, we are changing that.

Jesus said to go into all the nations and make disciples; He also said, you will be my witnesses … to the remotest parts of the earth.  Thirdly, He said that by our love, all people will know that we follow Jesus.  Clearly, our primary reason for existence as a church is to seek and help other people walk with Jesus.

We have redesigned our 11:00 Sunday worship service so that we are taking into account the need for new Christians and those seeking Christ to find the spiritual diet they need to learn to walk with the Lord.  At the same time, we are providing a setting for seasoned followers to actively focus on Jesus’ mission – helping  those who are newly walking with the Lord.

Our Jesus 1.0 Service sermon will be different from the 9:30 service. It will include the opportunity for interaction, a sermon fill-in-the-blank note sheet, a theme that is relevant to walking with Christ in today’s world, opportunity for ministry and prayer to receive and internalize the theme of the day, relevant songs of praise and worship.

Our goal is to have a service in which we clearly present “Jesus 1.0.”  We need a worship service to which we all can direct seekers and those new in following the Lord where they can easily see the relevancy of walking with the Lord.  We now have a place where we can offer “milk” to those who need to thrive on pure spiritual milk. Will you join me in prayer for this service that the Lord might use it to draw people to Himself? Please invite seekers you know!
