Cumberland Visiting Ministry

Cumberland Visiting Ministry
It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing.
It is not how much we love, but how much love we put in the giving.  ~Mother Teresa
Cumberland Presbyterian Church Visiting Ministry was founded by Rev. Pat Driskell.  He trained two groups of volunteers that each strongly believed the heart of our Christian fellowship was worshiping together, and that the spiritual nourishment and renewal we received from coming together to praise God, as one body in Christ, is the essence of the Christian faith.  We were aware that there were many for whom getting to church had become physically difficult or impossible.  The Visiting Ministry program was organized to help those members maintain their connection to the church community.
One group (with two teams) functions today as CVM, attempting to maintain the connection for those among us who are homebound, recovering from illness or surgery or who have the need for a personal visit.  The ministry members meet bi-monthly to plan the greeting card ministry and weekly visits and phone calls for a two-month period.
Our visits take us to homes, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.  We have planned luncheon outings and birthday parties in an effort to bring the church to those we do not usually see on Sunday mornings.
