Thank you for visiting our Frequently Asked Questions page!

Is "Cumberland" the name of this local church?  The Cumberand Presbyterian Church in Lubbock is part of network of churches also known at the "Cumberland Presbyterian Church" with denominational headquarters in Cordova, Tennessee (just outside Memphis).  The name comes from the Cumberland River area in Tennesee (see picture, left) where this denomination originated in 1810.

Is Cumberland Church affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) or the Presbyterian Church of America?  Cumberland is not affilitated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), (nor their current political/constitutional resolutions) nor are we part of  the Presbyterian Church of America;  although we certainly count any congregation who honors Jesus and lifts Him up as Lord and Savior as brothers and sisters in Christ.

What is the status of your pastor?  Steve Doles' ordination is recognized by the "Presbytery del Cristo," the network of over a dozen churches in a rather large area stretching from West Texas to California, of which our church is a part.  Steve is functioning fully as a Pastor of the Presbytery del Cristo of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  An installation as pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lubbock took place on March 27, 2011.  He was serving as Pulpit Guest and Stated Supply before that time, beginning October 2009.

We have visited, but you have not celebrated the Lord's Supper.  Do you do that?  Our tradition has been to celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month.

I'm a Presbyterian so I am used to a "Confession of Faith."  Do you you have a unique Confession of Faith or do you use the same one as other Presbyterian Churches?  The Cumberland Presbyterian Church Confession of faith is unique and can be acesssed on line at www.cumberland.org/gao/confession/confess.htm.
